  3. February 2: Tell the MPSC, “We Want an Analog Opt-Out”

Hour-Long Interview with Head of
Smart Meter Education Network on Radio Call-in Show
Saturday, January 24

Joe Gannon of WAAM radio will interview Linda Kurtz about smart meters Saturday, January 24 on his show "The Appliance Doctor." Joe is not at all convinced about the harm smart meters cause, but is willing to keep an open mind.

The show runs from 8-10 a.m. The interview will begin at 9. Please call in! It's a very early hour for me, because I cannot sleep at night due to the smart meters, cell towers, and Wi-Fi in my neighborhood, but I will do my best! Tell Joe how the smart meters have affected you. Ask some good questions. This show is widely listened to, so a great way for us to get the word out. I am hopeful that a new member of our group will also be interviewed beginning at 8 a.m. This individual is calling Joe to see if he will interview him.

The phone number to call in is  734-822-1600.
The station is 1600 AM.

Speak at Hearing in Lansing on DTE’s Claims
January 29

When:
Thursday, January 29, 9 a.m.
Where: 7109 West Saginaw Highway, Lansing
Time for speaking: You will get 3-5 minutes

You can make comments about the above DTE rate case on Thursday, January 29th at 9 a.m. in Lansing. You can complain about the smart meters and the radio-off smart meters. This is important to do. DTE says that it will "report on the progress made with AMI (including both successes and challenges)" and that the smart meter program "will have a positive impact on customers."

DTE states: "The current opt-out rate is 0.2% based on approximately, 3900 customers electing to opt out from the population of 1,547,606 million installations to date. The anticipated opt-out rate utilized in Case No. U-17053 was 0 6% based on an estimated opt-out volume of 15,500 at full installation . Thus, our current rate of customer s taking the opt-out option at this time is considerably lower than expected." Tell them why it's so low.

DTE Is Set to Increase Our Electric Rates by at Least $10 per Month

The case discussed above is one of DTE's "general rate cases." They periodically request rate increases. This time, they want to dramatically increase rates. I pay $35-75 per month in electric. Ten dollars a month represents a 20-33% increase in my bill! Residential customers now pay 15.8 cents per kilowatt-hour. DTE wants to raise that to 16.3 cents per kilowatt-hour by next December, according to DTE spokesman Scott Simons.

Meanwhile, corporate bills will go down if the MPSC approves DTE's request.

Tell the MPSC How You Feel!
Public Meeting February 2

You, the public, get to tell the MPSC how you feel! A public meeting has been arranged with  the Michigan Public Service Commision (MPSC) and state representative Henry Yanez regarding smart meters. For those who are new, the MPSC is the entity that approved DTE's and Consumers Energy smart meter programs and continues to trumpet the utilities' falsehoods.

Please Attend If You Can.  The Heat Is on!
The more people who attend these meetings, the more power we have to turn the tide!

Sterling Heights: Come to the Council Meeting

Tuesday, January 20, 2015

From an email from Jackie Ryan, who is organizing in Sterling Heights:  We informed the City Council there is a 70 year old senior woman who was threatened to have her power turned off immediately in these frigid cold winter temperatures unless she allowed them to install an Advanced Smart Meter. She told them she informed DTE that she had serious heart problems and her doctor gave her a written letter that this meter should not be installed on her home and if one was installed it could kill her by causing her to have a heart attack. She was the only one on her block approached by DTE installers. Tuesday night the City Manager, Mark Vanderpool promised to remedy this senior woman's situation immediately.

The new Mayor Mike Taylor vowed that if the residents of Sterling Heights would call and appear at the City Council meeting he would definitely take action on this forced installation of Advanced Smart Meters for the residents of Sterling Heights.

Therefore, we need everyone from Sterling Heights and everyone from the surrounding areas that are not for this forced installation of Advanced Smart Meters to come to the Tuesday, January 20, 2015 Sterling Heights City Council Meeting at 7:30pm at the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, Michigan.

We indicated they are being slammed on peoples homes without their consent and many people are being harassed and intimidated by DTE and their installers.

At the Smart Meter Education Network we have received varying reports about what the mayor actually said and what might happen, but regardless, show up!!!! Many citizens make a difference.

Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 5:00 PM - Allen Park City Council Chambers

DTE subterfuge in the City of Allen Park. Allen Park citizens asked their city council to host presentations both pro and con on smart meters. Council has invited DTE to present--and NOT those of us who are fighting the meters! The presentation is specifically non-televised--so that, of course, even more citizens will not hear about the smart meters. Hold Allen Park City Council and mayor accountable. Attend the meeting. Write!

Come to the rallies on May 24 in Ann Arbor and Madison Heights

We are speaking about smart meters at the anti-GMO rallies in Ann Arbor and Madison Heights on May 24. These anti-GMO rallies are excellent places to attract more supporters to our cause. We had great success at the last two rallies held in Ann Arbor. We will have a table at each rally for flyers and petitions.

Ann Arbor rally:  Saturday, May 24,  1–4 p.m.
Liberty Plaza at the corner of Division and Liberty in downtown Ann Arbor.
255 East Liberty Street, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104.

Madison Heights: Saturday, May 24,   2–6 p.m.
1111 W 14 Mile Rd, Madison Heights MI 48071-1001

Did you know that radiofrequency waves and the chemical in Roundup (used on GMOs) both cause the same health problems by knocking calcium ions off the cell membrane? Did you know that both radiofrequency from smart meters, cell phone towers, and WiFi are a major factor contributing to the demise of bees and other insects?  Get hardwired  and get rid of smart meters for the sake of your food supply. No bees, no food.

Note: SMEN does not take a stand on GMOs, just like we do not take a stand on any political point of view or issue other than those having to do with electromagnetic frequencies. We are here to spread the word about smart meters in every way we can and reach out to all groups and all constituencies.

Terms to Know

Advanced meter: smart meter (term used by DTE to hide the fact it is a smart meter).

AMI meter and AMI program: another name for the smart meter and the smart meter program. AMI stands for advanced metering infrastructure.

Blood-brain barrier: EMFs can cause the blood-brain barrier to be breached, allowing toxins to enter the brain. Toxin entry is thought to be partially responsible for Alzheimer’s, dementia, and Parkinson’s.

Dirty electricity: spiky, pulsed electromagnetic field generated by smart meters that rides through building wiring and permeates the building’s rooms. Responsible for many of the health problems seen with smart and digital meters.

Electromagnetic fields (EMFs): consist of an electrical field and a magnetic field. Fields are created by the flow of electrical current through the wire, sunlight, etc.

Electromagnetic frequency: examples are 60 Hz electrical current of your home, RF of a cell phone. Often used interchangeably with electromagnetic field.

Electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS): sensitivity to electromagnetic fields. Symptoms are complex and involve all bodily systems

Hydrogen bonds: Electrostatic bonds that help hold the DNA double helix together. Breakage of hydrogen bonds may cause changes in DNA that can lead to cancer. RF and other EMFs may disrupt the Hydrogen bonds.

Meter upgrade: the installation of an advanced (smart) meter on your home by DTE.

Microwave radiation: the type of radiation emitted by smart meters. Known to cause biological harm.

Non-transmitting meter: another name for the DTE and Consumers opt-out meters.

Opt-out meter: this is a smart meter. The only thing that is different is the radio-transmitter is turned off. It still generates dirty electricity, it still retains the two antennas, and it is only incrementally less harmful to your health. It can still record detailed information about your electrical usage.

Radio-disabled meter: another name for the DTE opt-out meter.

Radio-off meter: another name for the DTE opt-out meter.

Radiofrequency (RF): high-frequency electromagnetic waves in the range of 10 MHz to 300 Ghz. All wireless devices, including smart meters, cell phones, and Wi-Fi emit RF.

Switched mode power supplycontained in all smart meters, it creates dirty electricity.

van der Waals bonds: an extremely weak electromagnetic force that helps hold the DNA double helix together. Breakage of the van der Waals bond may cause changes in DNA that can lead to cancer. RF and other EMFs can disrupt the van der Waals bonds.
